Fasten Your Seatbelts

So, as many like-minded people, I have been in shock. I have always stayed away from political posts. I know I have readers who support what has happened. I know they believe this is all for the better. They wanted - needed - change. But I think they don't fully understand the magnitude of change they will get.

Here's what many have failed to realize:

The Republicans will have total control over all three branches of government, and the armed forces. They also control 33 state legislatures. Considering the views of the man who will be moving into the Oval Office, and the views of those with whom he has surrounded himself, there will be changes which will affect generations to come.

The President-elect of the Red and White States of America (RWSA) [one can't use the word United] has already tried to suppress the media by telling them they would not be allowed to cover today's meeting with the current administration. For now, anyway, President Obama controls the White House Press Corps. Considering that the RWSA President-elect hates the media, once he takes office he can revoke press credentials of any member of the media, any time he likes.

He has already called in law enforcement to push peaceful protesters away from his building in New York City. Once he takes office, he can call in the military.

To use a cliche, those things are only the tip of the iceberg of change to come. Once he has the power of Executive Order, once the Republicans get his "very conservative judges" (his words) in place, they will be unstoppable. Look what happened with Citizens United. And look to the gutting of the Voting Rights Act before Justice Scalia died. That very act of defiance of the conservative wing of the US Supreme Court is part of the reason we have the current election results.

As President Obama stated yesterday morning as he addressed the nation, "The sun came up." and we will see "the peaceful transfer of power."  But, once the President of the RWSA, and the Republicans - who have already declared this "a mandate" - get the taste of unstoppable power, you may be witnessing a transfer of power for the last time for years to come. I'm not saying it will be, I'm saying it could be.

Yes, life will go on, but it may be a very different life. So, put your tray tables in the upright and locked position. At the very least, to misquote the line from All About Eve,
"Fasten your seat belts,"
8
"it's going to be a bumpy ride."

The actual line: "Fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy night."

The forecast doesn't look good. I'm hoping the Dems can take back the House and Senate in 2018. Right now the Reps own it all and it will be all on them and when it doesn't go well they will say it's all Obama's fault. Crazy daze. Peace and Love to you and to all. Hugs, Licks, and Strokes, AOM

It's all about HATE. HATE for Obama, HATE for Hillary, and HATE for anything other than White Men Who Grab Pussies And Threaten Violence.

My only hope: He will be unable to deliver on the promises that he has made...they are neither practical, realistic nor do-able. By the time we get to his first State of the Union address, and his supporters have realized this, they will turn on him...the White Supremacists of every brand...no matter what, this ain't gonna be pretty.

God help us.

Great Post and politics are a big part of our lives. Again great advice from French Patrick, leave Trump's words in the past and watch his ACTIONS for the future. Hugs and bisous.

This comment has nothing to do with masturbation; hope it makes it through anyway.

I just read about this idea of wearing a safety pin to show that you are willing to intervene in whatever-phobic harassment if you see it going on. A friend of mine (white) has an adopted black daughter who is 9 years old. They live in a nice neighborhood with good schools. On Wednesday a boy at her school told her, "Trump is the president now, and you're going to die."

If I may, I'd like to post a link to the article that describes the safety-pin movement http://tinyurl.com/zdgzyru and a link to a guide for how to intervene peacefully: http://tinyurl.com/z33fwd7

Not in America but politics does effect business for many countries that trade on international scale. We do have to pay attention to America's political situation.

Just wait until the Honeymoon period is over. Give him a year to get his feet wet and by then some of the people that put him there will be calling for his blood. The same people that put him there will be the same people that kick him out. Thats the nature of people and politics. The people are like seagulls; love you when you got a chip for them but will shit on you the moment you run out of chips.

In politics, the only time a government functions effectively is when there is a hostile senate. Not sure what the US term of it would be but its when the government of the day has the lower house but the opposition has the senate. Terms of absolute power in modern politics are usually short lived (unless its a communist regime). Same as minority governments. That could have been a possible outcome for either of the options (where neither party has enough to form government and have to get independents to cross over to form the seats needed).

No matter who was elected in America; the country was screwed regardless. One has to hit rock bottom before improvement can happen. Is this America's rock bottom? Highly likely at this stage. He has 4 years. At the end of the 4 years the public will reflect. If reflection is negative you cant put all blame on him. You will need to stand up and take a good long look at yourself in the mirror. This is your doing. Not his. Yours. You put him in that position.

The rest of the world will be watching.

The fact of the matter is, it was a Greek tragedy. I mean, even 82% of Republicans hated Trump, but they hated Clinton more. Over half of all Americans didn't vote. Put 10% of them and 5% of Johnson/Stein voters on Team Blue, and it becomes an electoral college landslide.

They COULD HAVE put more than 20% of those voters on Team Blue.

And the New Democrats look especially silly when you consider the following:

29% of Latinos voted for Trump. Yeah, they want the wall to keep their in-laws, that cousin who always asks for money, and that cousin who supports Trump out.

52% of white women voted for Trump. Yeah, the "vagina vote" as us skeptics called it? Went to a pickup artist. (I must say, I thought they'd at least vote against the pickup artist. So I'm only slightly less a moran than "her turn".)

14% of LGBTs voted for Trump. This and the last stat tell me Milo isn't the only one who'd hit that.

The only whites loyal to the Dems (and, for that matter, the republic itself) made under $30k a year. The $30k~$50k whites voted about evenly. A majority of $100k+ voters, regardless of race, went to Trump. Let me repeat that: The white suburban professionals who were supposed to make up for union jobs sacrificed to the false god of free trade, still went to Trump.

And you know? The results downballot, with the Dems gaining ground in Congress? I know who's to blame.

So, you have the "pragmatists" learning about reality. But we'll be having this convo again in four years, if we're not annexed by Russia or something.

As a good friend of mine in the UK reminded me, Hitler was democratically elected to his first office -- and the rest is history.

If I have well understood, Donald Trump is the "President-elect", the title used for the "apparent winner", while Obama holds the office on a "lame-duck basis". You know me and you have obviously already guessed that "Donald" and "duck" in the same sentence is merely fortuitous, thus I hope that Disney is not going to be upset with me. If I have well understood Hillary Clinton can be made President on December 19 if the Electoral College choose her as they have the power to do it. Even in states where that is not allowed, by paying a small fine. Being not American I refrain from recommending anything, but you may be happy to learn that there is a petition which has already obtained more than 2,2 million voices.

If you are interrested, it is at https://www.change.org/p/electoral-college-electors-electoral-college-make-hillary-clinton-president-on-december-19?recruiter=628467491&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=share_twitter_responsive

Have a great day, darling, with 2,2 million bisous. Feel free to reblog it or not

@ Anon - "If we're not part of Russia." Well said, because while we may not end up being annexed by Russia, we very well could end up with a President Trump for as long as he's alive. When they have absolute power to do as they please, whose to stop them?

Good that you shared your shock. I share it too. But, as one General said in the Crimean War: "Nothing is either as bad or as good as it is first reported."
